Supervision is a process where ‘vision’ implies seeing: the word ‘supervision’ can be read as over-seeing or looking over someone’s shoulder to check on them. It can be helpful to think about supervision both in terms of development and performance (which is more related to research progress, research skills although this distinction maybe seen as artificial).
Within the framework of our PhD programmes supervision is orchestrated through a supervisory committee.
All members have to be nominated at the end of the first semester. The committee consists of a primary (first) supervisor and one or two more committee members, of which one can be external (not affiliated with the University of Salzburg).
